Zed setup

Zed's AI agent on your own prepaid key.

Zed talks to any OpenAI-compatible or Anthropic-compatible API. Add Model.sale in settings.json, paste your key once, and choose the model in the Agent Panel.

1. Add the providers to settings.json

Open settings (zed: open settings) and merge this block. Claude goes through the Anthropic-compatible provider, which keeps prompt caching; everything else goes through the OpenAI-compatible one.

Add other model IDs from the catalog to available_models the same way.

2. Paste your key

Run agent: open settings, find both Model.sale providers under LLM Providers and paste your Model.sale key into each. Zed keeps it in the system keychain, not in settings.json.

3. Choose the model

Open the Agent Panel and pick a Model.sale model in the model selector. Every request is billed per token from your balance; the exact charge is in Usage.
